To commemorate the posting of the new villain model sheet, here's the old one, from July 16th 2002. More than six years ago! Wow, time has really flown. And this has aged terribly. It's funny, at the time this and the model sheet for the StarStrikers themselves seemed really good, and everyone who saw it was impressed. I can't for the life of me see why now. If nothing else, it's an anatomical nightmare.

Kitty's design here was pretty consistent throughout the webcomic, though with time her proportions at least improved. Only now have I really had cause to go back and rethink her look, so at least I can say she served me well. Lewellyn Drake, sadly, was never seen again. You may notice that he was omitted from the new villains sheet; this is because he never made the cut for the first StarStrikers novel. I still like the shading on his shirt and hair, but not much else.

Marcella Kelly, today known as Marcella May, is one of my longest-serving characters next to Sylvia and Lowenstein. I liked the concept of her design here but not the execution; it was an attempt to really make her curvaceous but I didn't quite have the hang of it yet. Like all of these characters except Kitty, I didn't get many more chances at drawing them because they didn't figure into the webcomic, so May's 2008 design is effectively a do-over from this one.

The twins - here known as Azriel and Axel, today Azriel and Azureus - are my least favourite of these designs. Everything from the neck down is just horrific. They were characters I never really got a handle on but they appear a fair amount within the first novel, so at least now I get a chance to make amends.

You'll note that Kitty and her team were known as the Victory 5. At the time someone asked me why I'd picked such a restrictive name for her splinter group; if I ever wanted to add or remove characters I'd be forced to change it. This was something I was actually fully aware of, in fact I always thought it'd be funny if they kept the name no matter how many new members joined, just to be awkward.

I feel really apologetic about the fact that I ever put this crud out there. At least now we can look back on it and view it as a baby step toward where we are today.
